Rosé 2024
Clayhill Vineyard, Essex
£16.00
The second year in a row I've been able to get a small amount of Pinot Noir from Clayhill Vineyard in the highly-regarded Crouch Valley in Essex. Despite 2024 not being a great year, with us seeing another cool and damp growing season, this was some of the best fruit I've ever seen!
Made from Burgundian still wine Pinot Noir clones, 75% of the fruit was de-stemmed, with the remaining 25% being left 'whole bunch'. Left for a day and a half on the skins to extract the colour, before draining off enough juice to fill a single old oak barrel, where it underwent spontaneous fermentation (no added yeast). The wine then naturally completed malo-lactic fermentation to soften the acidity, and was left to settle over winter. No fining or filtering before being hand-bottled in March 2025, with just 282 bottles made.
While deeper in colour than the 2024 rosé, this wine is still dry, soft and easy drinking, having good depth and length. I think this is a rosé that goes really well with food - expect red fruits, nice weight, and a dry finish.
Available above individually or in cases of 6.
