Pinot Noir 2023

Clayhill Vineyard, Essex

£22.00

Only the second red wine from Leornian Wines, and my first made from pure Pinot Noir. I was very excited in 2023 to get a small amount of fruit from Clayhill Vineyard in the Crouch Valley, Essex. This region is quickly gaining a great reputation for growing excellent quality grapes for still wine here in England.

Harvested on 24th October 2023, the grapes were put into an open-top wooden fermenter - 90% de-stemmed, 10% whole-cluster. Following a 9-day maceration on the skins, the grapes were then basket-pressed to a single 3 year-old French oak barrel, where the wine naturally completed malo-lactic fermentation and was left to settle and age for 16 months. Bottled in March 2025, unfined and unfiltered, with only 289 finished bottles made.

This Pinot has a fresh, bright nose with lots going on - dark red fruits and warm spices. On the palate there's black cherry, a hint of dark chocolate and blackberry. It's smooth with light tannins, and a long dry finish. I think it's best served slightly chilled, and can be drunk on its own, with grilled red meat, or anything you would have at a BBQ!

Available above individually or in cases of 6.
